Shibori Ribbon Jewellery - Lynn Wright, January Meeting 2020

Our first meeting of the New Year was led by Lynn Wright, one of our own members, on Shibori Ribbon Jewellery. We would be using beautifully dyed, pleated, shibori ribbon in a whole variety of colours that changed according to the way it was viewed.   The beautiful samples below were made by Lynn to inspire us.

We each  picked a piece of ribbon from a box and were given a few minutes to play with it, regarding movement, colour and stretchiness.

We then drew a simple shape on pelmet vilene and pinned the ribbon allowing for pleats and curves. When satisfied the ribbon was tacked.

Beads were sewn around the edge and across the top and bottom of the shape.

We also used beads in the middle to secure the pleats.

We then cut out another piece of vilene for the backing, which could be either over-sewn to the main piece or sewn with more beads.

It was then our decision to make it into a pendant or a brooch and one of our members already had the brooch pin attached.
The rest of us took our jewellery to finish at home.
Thank you to Lynn for showing us how to make something completely different and making it an enjoyable day.
