The new programme was circulated and the workshops looked very exciting.
After lunch three members talked and demonstrated their way through three stitches in turn with the branch members trying them out.
drizzle stitch |
Joanna started by talking us through and demonstrating drizzle stitch. Then we all had a go as you can see below.
Joanna said the stitch could be used for flower stamens, plants or to add texture.
padded satin stitch |
The second stitch was padded satin stitch demonstrated by Sandra. We were shown how to outline a leaf with split stitch and then work the satin stitches across the leaf keeping them parallel. After working the first layer a second layer was stitched over the top of the first working at about 90 degrees to the first layer.
The second method was to cut out a piece of felt, stab stitch it to the background and then outline in split stitch
The satin stitch was then sewn over the top of the felt. Our efforts are below.
Padded satin stitch is useful for flowers, leaves etc.
The final stitch was demonstrated by Agnes who showed everyone how to sew picot stitch.
picot stitch |
Agnes demonstrated how to lay down three threads by wrapping around a pin and then weaving across the threads until the bottom to produce a petal like shape. Our samples are below.
Picot stitch gives a lovely 3D effect for flowers and foliage.
Members enjoyed the stitching afternoon and a big thank you goes to the three demonstrators.
