Textile News 8

Here are some flowering shrubs to let you know it is Spring.

From Sandra's garden but forgotten its name

3D weaving
Denise has been weaving in between gardening and taking care of her allotment. She has made another 3D weaving by only weaving to the central line every other row and then pulling the warp so it draws up into a fan shape.



The weaving is very neat and I love the colours which make me think of lichens.Thank you for sharing your weavings with us.

Tote Bag 
Sandra has just finished embroidering a gecko on the front of a tote bag. The bag itself is not finished yet as she does not have any material to line it. 

The patterns up the back are made with dyed linen buttons.Sandra enjoyed making the gecko and is looking forward to the bag being completed.

Crazy Patchwork Tote Bag 
Sue has just finished her crazy patchwork which she has made into a tote bag. She said she had no idea what to do with it until she was inspired by Bev's patchwork bag.
 Thanks Sue the colours are very pretty.

Textile News 7

Some more Spring flowers for you on this beautiful Spring morning.





Positivity
 Bev is the first member to finish and send a photo of her 6" square to me. I am hoping this is going to be the first of many so they can be made into a hanging.

Bev has also completed one of her UFO's - a little Easter embroidery which is very cute.

Textile News 6

Photograph Album
Sandra has just finished making some of her photographs from the Etruscans into an album. The photographs are sewn together and then joined with a piece of calico to make the spine The book is then finished with a hard board cover.



 Sandra says she has plenty more photographs to make more books!

 Tote Bags, Lino Prints and a  Felt Hat
Maureen has been very busy and has finished/made 2 tote bags, carved 2 lino prints and made a felt hat.
The bags are very pretty and spring-like and will be useful.The green one was started at the meeting and the blue material was made from a transfer dye pattern.
 The lino prints will be able to be used in sketchbooks, cards and on material.
 The hat will be needed at the moment with this bitterly cold wind blowing and Maureen says it is a perfect fit as she got the shrinkage just right..
 Thanks Maureen for your delightful work  and I am sure it will be enjoyed by all our members.

Textile news 5

Tote Bag
Janet has been busy finishing her tote bag. She has had a go at crazy patchwork for the first time on one side and stencil
led patterns on the other with paint sticks. The photos show the development of the bag. 




Thank you Janet, I just love the richness of the colour of the patterns but I am sure it will be of use to you as well.

Easter Wreath 

 Bev has made a very pretty and colouful Easter Wreath to wish everyone a Happy Easter!

In the picture below you can see some of the owl samples from Christmas she has now finished. Next Christmas she will be able to decorate her tree with a whole parliament of owls!

Book bag 
Another bag has just been finished by Anita to keep her embroidered book in. She modified the pattern slightly so that it was the right size for her book.
 Well done Anita it looks good but I am glad the snails in my garden are not as large as the one on your bag!

finishing her brooch started with Lynn
and making a start on her 6" square for Positivity

Textile news April Meeting Chairman's Challenge - Positivity

Please make a 6" square to show what you enjoy about being a member of the Embroiderers' Guild. The squares will be joined together to make a hanging which will be displayed at our meetings.

Positivity, DIFFERENT WAYS OF WORKING A STITCH - embroidery, beading

Above you can see two 6 inch squares on the theme of Positivity. They both come under the heading of Education.
The first one is about knowledge but the second one is more practical dealing with the acquisition of a skill and then adapting it.

The choice for your square is what you enjoy about the Embroiderers' Guild.

Tote Bag
Bev has just finished making a very pretty tote bag with two different sides. One is made from crazy patchwork in red , white and blue and the other is pink fabric with two pretty pockets.

The bag will be very useful and will also be a talking point because of the embroidery.

Tapestry Weaving 
Lynn has told us that she has always been interested in tapestry weaving, and after crocheting 80 beanie hats for charity, she has used the left-over wool to weave this picture.
 The colours are beautiful and welcome to the "weavers club."
Lynn says that the next skill she is teaching herself is paper cutting. Thanks Lynn  and keep enjoying yourself.
